If the essay on perfection in purple that is "Looking Glass" was too much for you, and you needed some earth-tones to help ground you, then Magic Mushroom is what you are looking for.
Still chonky, but not overly so, this 27 carat, flawless Ametrine is from Bolivia.
This cut continues the theme of “Looking Glass” by using a combination colors and frosted facets invite the beholder to enter a new world through the gemstones’s portals.
Whether it is from the different color pallet or from the addition of the accent portals, I find I can remain more calm when contemplating this stone. The child in me doesn’t throw such a tantrum of impatience waiting to see the view from the center.
I suspect this is because we do get glimpses of the interior through the accent portals, but also because the girdle facets create a series of hearts along the boundary of the stone’s top and bottom. I do believe the stone is sending you love! There is also the classic purple-gold color-zoning of the ametrine adhering to the logics of the crystal's formation; logics which offer something else in addition to the geometry of the cut design. And yet through all of gentle nods to my sensibilities, there is still the reward offered by the main portal, that moment of perfect geometric alignment and harmony.
If “Looking Glass” was the art of a purist, “Magic Mushroom” is art that empathizes and offers a more gentle path for the viewer. Both still lead to astonishment.
