CTH:YAG is one of our all-time favorites. Its color is wonderful and vibrant, and it’s marvelous set in jewelry as it rates an 8.5 on the Mohs scale and has an RI of 1.8. You can even see some dispersion in one of these videos. It’s a looker, for sure.
It also is a pretty miraculous stone for medical devices. CTH:YAG lasers are used in procedures like the fragmentation of gallstones and for vascular welding. It creates an eye-safe beam and has even been used in non-medical applications like atmospheric testing.
