Chrysoberyl is a great stone. It’s hard (8.5 on the Mohs scale) and has a nice refractive index: 1.74-1.75, so it will cut a lovely gemstone. It’s most famous manifestations are as a milk-and-honey cat’s eye or as the elusive natural Alexandrite, both of which rely on a phenomenal traits to define them. Chrysoberyl is also know for its twinning, sometimes creating a twinning triplet called a “trilling”.
While the stones we have for you don’t go that far down the phenomenon path, they display all of these signature features, and we think it makes them rather magical.
A lemon-lime greenish-yellow under cool light, they change to a honey orangish-gold in warm light. Not quite the red-green shift of the best Alexandrite, but there are hints of it here. That honey gold tone also brings to mind the most desirable color of Cat’s-eye Chrysoberyl.

Notes: This stone asks that you embrace the clarity features. Fingerprints, negative crystals and milky wisps will all be visible in the cut stone, but they should be subtle features that speak to the natural formation of these special chrysoberyls. Cutting for maximum yield should result in a beautiful stone with a bit of extra interest from a few extra sparkles.
